پاکستانی حکومت کے خلاف احتجاجی مارچ کرنے والے تحریک انصاف کے قافلے پر فائرنگ کی گئی ہے۔ گوجرانوالہ میں کی جانے والی فائرنگ کا نشانہ تحریک انصاف کے سربراہ عمران خان کی بلٹ پروف گاڑی تھی۔ تحریک انصاف اور مولانا طاہر القادری کی جماعت عوامی تحریک اسلام آباد پہنچ کر حکومت کے خلاف دھرنا دینے کا ارادہ رکھتے ہیں۔ اطلاعات کے مطابق شرکاء کی بڑی تعداد کی وجہ سے احتجاجی مارچ انتہائی سست روی سے آگے بڑھ رہا ہے۔ امکان ظاہر کیا گیا ہے کہ جمعے کی شام تک احتجاجی مارچ کے ابتدائی قافلے اسلام آباد کے زیرو پوائنٹ تک پہنچنا شروع ہو جائیں گے۔ وزیر داخلہ نثار علی خان کے مطابق پی ٹی آئی مارچ کے شرکا نے اسلام آباد کے امن کو خراب کرنے کی کوشش کی تو سختی سے نمٹا جائے گا۔ اسلام آباد میں سکیورٹی انتہائی چوکس ہے اور پولیس کے ہزاروں اضافی دستے تعینات کر دیے گئے ہیں۔

Gawadar to be developed as a`free port’: PM

GAWADAR: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said the present government plans to develop Gawadar as a `Free Port' on the lines of Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong ports. The Planning Commission has been tasked with the exercise to hire international consultants for this purpose, he said while talking to media-persons here after attending a briefing on the pace of on-going development projects in Balochistan. Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik and Chief of the Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif were also present on the occasion. The Prime Minister said the government has a broad-based plan for the development of Gawadar under which the port city would have a state of the art airport and a developed seaport. He said a new security force would also be raised for the security and protection of foreign nationals, particularly the Chinese citizens, working on various projects in the area. The Prime Minister said the civil and military leadership was on the same page and committed to work together for making Pakistan a developed, peaceful and secure country and retrieve it from the challenges it was facing. "We are together and want to retrieve the country from various challenges. We are committed and we will do it", he added. The Prime Minister said during today's meeting, the matters relating to development of Balochistan, peace and security and Pak-China Economic Corridor were discussed. The ways and means to connect Kashgar (China) and Gawadar through road and rail links were deliberated in detail, he added. The Prime Minister said Director General Frontier Works Organization (FWO) briefed the meeting about the pace of work on various road projects underway in the province. Nawaz Sharif expressed his government's resolve to lay a network of roads in Balochistan during the current tenure. The Prime Minister appreciated DG FWO Maj. Gen. Muhammad Afzal for his dedication in the development and construction work in Balochistan with the support of Army Staff. He said the development work in Balochistan by FWO was not aimed at making profits, as profit does not matter to achieve the goal of peace and progress in the province. The Prime Minister said he would also convene a cabinet meeting in Balochistan. Nawaz Sharif was highly appreciative of the policies of reforms, good governance and merit, initiated by Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik. "He is doing good job", he remarked. Earlier, during the briefing, the Prime Minister was apprised that in Pak-China Economic Corridor, Rs 162 billion have been allocated for Balochistan only. He was informed that the provision of clean drinking, 300-bed hospital, technical training center, 19-km expressway and expansion of airport and port have also been planned for Gawadar. The Prime Minister appreciated the role of federal agencies, Army, FC and police for improving the law and order situation in Balochistan during the last 10 months. He directed the Finance Minister to release Rs. 1.6 billion for the port dredging. The Prime Minister said that Gawadar should be developed as a free port on the lines of Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong ports, adding, interests of local people should be protected while developing Gawadar. The Prime Minister said the development of Gawadar would prove to be a game changer, not only for Balochistan but for the region too. The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister appreciated the services of DG FWO for ensuring quality, transparency in development and construction work through fast-track process. The Chief Minister Balochistan while thanking the Prime Minister said that for the first time in the history, 78 % development budget had been released till now and Rs. 110 billion have been received under the NFC Award for Balochistan, which is unprecedented. Strong economy, democracy essential for credible defense: Sharif

Addressing the 129th PMA Long Course at Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul, Sharif said that all the institutions have to work together to achieve the common goal of nation’s progress. “Let me remind you (cadets) that without strong economy, democratic institutions, rule of law and containment of terrorism, credible defense of the country isn’t possible,” Sharif said. The prime minister congratulated young cadets and said that their commissioning in the Pakistan Army is a matter of great pride. He called upon them to uphold the prestige of the Pakistan Army through integrity of character and perseverance. “Nation reposes great trust in you, and you have to prove this trust,” he said, adding the profession of arms demands allegiance and sacrifice. Sharif also called upon young cadets to remain abreast with latest technology as the nature of warfare has completely changed in the modern world. “But what you lack in possession, you must make it up with your passion,” he told cadets. Earlier, the prime minister reviewed the smartly turned out parade and gave away honorary sword, sticks and gold medals to cadets for showing exemplary performance. Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif along with senior officers and government ministers were also present on the occasion. A large number of parents of the cadets also attended the ceremony. APP adds: The prime minister lauded the excellence of the Pakistan Military Academy, its faculty members and staff and said that it was because of their tireless efforts that this course, and many more before this one, consummate of their strenuous training to become officers, the nation can rely on, to guard its frontiers. He said: "Your professional competence and concern for training and welfare of your under-command will earn you their respect and leadership. We all know that your soldiers will smilingly offer the greatest sacrifice under your command." The prime minister said Pakistan Military Academy is rightfully considered a veritable cradle of leadership. "It is here, that the art of transformation is perfected and raw youth is shaped and chiseled into self-assured and responsible Army officers. It is here, that the trainees imbibe the best values of life to develop into sterling characters. Therefore, the standards set here must serve as the touchstones for all officers," he added.

CCNS resolves to ensure national security

The meeting reviewed recent announcement by TTP to end ceasefire and developed a strategy to tackle the situation. In its meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the military and political leadership has also decided to continue ongoing targeted operation in Karachi. The meeting was attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Rashid Mahmood, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam, Director General Intelligence Bureau (DG IB) Aftab Sultan and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif. Secretary Defence Lt. Gen. Asif Yaseen, Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security Sartaj Aziz, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan were also present in the meeting.

Sources said fresh govt-military rift over former president Pervez Musharraf’s treason trial will take center-stage in meeting between the two high-ups. Nawaz Sharif and Zardari will also discuss Taliban peace talks, Pakistan Protection Bill 2014, overall security situation and other matters of national interest, sources said. Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah, Senator Raza Rabbani, and Syed Murad Ali Shah will also be present on the occasion from PPP side, while PML-N leaders and ministers will accompany the PM.

Musharraf treason trial adjourned till April 24

The court indicted 70-year-old Musharraf on March 31 on five counts of charges for subverting and abrogating the Constitution, promulgating emergency in the country in November 2007 and detaining judges of the higher judiciary. The former army chief, who faces death penalty if convicted of the charges, pleaded innocence and denied all allegations. Musharraf's chief counsel Barrister Farogh Naseem, chief prosecutor Akram Shaikh and other lawyers arrived in the court and gave arguments.

PM Sharif gives peace another chance, forms committee for talks with TTP

Addressing the National Assembly, Pakistan's Prime Minister said that he wanted to give peace one more chance, adding he has constituted a committee in this regard. PM Sharif announced that Major (retd) Mohammad Amir, Irfan Siddiqui, Rahimullah Yusufzai and Rustam Shah Mohmand will be in the committee, adding he will personally supervise the committee. The prime minister said that he wants to end terrorism in the country whether this is through dialogues or through military operation. He thanked political parties which mandated the government to tackle the issue by negotiating with Taliban. At the outset, PM Sharif said providing safety to people is government’s responsibility adding terrorism is against the spirit of Islam. He said that the country is facing menace of terrorism since last 14 years as a result of a bad decision by a military ruler. PM Sharif said that the government had made sincere efforts to hold talks with terror elements following an all parties conference.
